Multi-language Kiosk

Set the kiosk language per site or per worker. English, Polish, Romanian and Lithuanian are supported out of the box.

What this does

Show the kiosk in a worker’s preferred language.

The kiosk speaks four languages out of the box: English (EN), Polish (PL), Romanian (RO) and Lithuanian (LT). You can set a default language per site — useful when most of the workforce at a particular warehouse speaks the same first language — and you can also override that on a per-worker basis for individuals.

The kiosk swaps languages automatically when it recognises a worker, so each person sees the kiosk in the language they prefer without anyone having to tap a flag or pick a menu.

Good to know

There is nothing to install on the kiosk hardware. All four languages are bundled with the kiosk app already — you just pick which one to show.

Setting a Location Default

Pick the language for everyone at a single site.

Open the location

From the manage portal, go to Locations, then click the site you want to configure.

Find the Kiosk language picker

Scroll to the Kiosk & clock-in section. Look for the Kiosk language dropdown — it sits next to the geofence map picker.

Choose the language

Pick one of English, Polish, Romanian or Lithuanian. Choosing “Use account default” falls back to English.

Save

Click Save. The new language applies to every kiosk pinned to this location on the next page refresh — usually within a few seconds.

Per-worker Override

Override the location default for a specific worker.

Sometimes the location default is wrong for one or two people — perhaps a Polish-speaking supervisor at a mostly English site, or a brand-new Romanian agency worker at a site that has not had Romanian speakers before. Set their preferred language on the worker record itself.

Open the worker

From Workers, click the worker you want to set a language for, then click Edit.

Set Preferred Language

Find the Preferred language dropdown on the worker form. Pick the language they should see at the kiosk. Leaving it blank means the worker uses whatever the location is set to.

Save

The new language applies the next time the worker is identified at the kiosk.

Note

Worker overrides win over the location default. If a worker has a preferred language set, the kiosk uses theirs — even if the location is configured differently.

How the Kiosk Picks a Language

A short tour of the lookup order.

Lookup order — the first match wins:

  1. Worker preferred_language — set on the worker’s edit page. Always wins.
  2. Location kiosk_language — set on the location’s edit page.
  3. English — the bundled fallback if nothing else is set.

The kiosk app loads all four language dictionaries when it starts. Switching is instant once a worker is recognised — no network call, no flash of English text first. Anonymous screens (the “Tap to start” idle screen and the “Recognising face” screen) use the location default.

Good to know

Because all four languages are bundled into the kiosk app, there is nothing to download or sync. The change takes effect immediately.

What Gets Translated

And what stays in English.

Translated

  • • Kiosk button labels (Clock in, Clock out, Start break, etc.)
  • • Status messages (“Clocked in successfully”, “Already clocked in”)
  • • Greetings (“Welcome”, “Good morning / afternoon”)
  • • Confirmation prompts (“Are you sure?”)
  • • Geofence and GPS warnings (“You are 412m from the site”)

Stays in English

  • • Worker names — appear exactly as you typed them
  • • Location names — same
  • Pre-clock-in survey questions and options — you write these yourself; they appear in whatever language you typed them in
  • • Clock-in messages you author (settings > clock messages)
  • • Custom notes and free-text fields
Important

If you need a Polish or Romanian version of a custom message or survey question, write it in Polish or Romanian — the kiosk will display whatever you wrote exactly. Multiple language versions of the same survey is on the roadmap.

Best Practices

A few patterns that work well in the wild.

Set the location default first — pick the most common first language for the workforce at each site. Then override on a per-worker basis only for outliers.
Trust the worker override — some agency workers have used multiple kiosks in their first language elsewhere and prefer to stick with it. The override is there for that.
Recheck after onboarding — when a new agency batch joins, ask whether the location default still fits the largest group; you may want to update it.
Write surveys in the right language up front — if your wellness survey is for a Polish-speaking warehouse, write the questions in Polish. The kiosk will not translate them automatically.
Test with one worker before you flip the location — set your own profile to the new language, then clock yourself in at the kiosk to confirm everything looks right.
Note

Worker preferred_language is also exposed through the public API at GET /api/v1/workers.php, so you can sync it from your HR / CRM in bulk.
